ENVIRONMENT LETHBRIDGE LAUNCHES
New organization aims to support municipal sustainability
Last month we were excited to support the launch of Environment Lethbridge, a new organization committed to municipal sustainability in our southern neighbour. Environment Lethbridge aims to support municipal policy development and the implementation of environmental initiatives within the community. Working directly with the city, Environment Lethbridge will be a key player in helping to establish local and active leadership in environmental stewardship and innovation.
Recognizing that environmental problems and concerns require collaborative and cross-sectoral solutions, Environmental Lethbridge includes numerous partners from across the community. Their community partners include Lethbridge College, the University of Lethbridge, the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce, Exhibition Park, Southern Alberta Group for the Environment, Industrial Association of Southern Alberta, the Mission and Social Action committee of McKillop United Church, the Oldman Watershed Council, Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization, and the Lethbridge Naturalists’ Society.
After three years of planning from a dedicated group of volunteers, the organization officially launched at an event on January 30th with 105 people in attendance, including the Mayor, two City Councilors and one MLA. The event included several speakers and a roundtable discussion which served to inspire and provide ideas for the future. Moving forward, Environment Lethbridge now has a full slate of Excecutive Committee members and partners who will set the strategic direction for the organization.
