Jennifer Ewen serves as the Executive Director for the Marda Loop Justice Film Festival (MLJFF). Before stepping into this position, she served as the Volunteer Coordinator and continues to volunteer for the film selection committee. The MLJFF presents some of the world’s best documentaries on the issues that are important to us as individuals, Canadians, global citizens, and humans. MLJFF brought these influential documentaries from international filmmakers to more than 30,000 people in the Calgary area and across Canada, and thanks to their sponsors, they’ve done it free of charge. Since its inception in 2006, the MLJFF has grown into a six-day festival in four venues. Every screening includes a discussion with the filmmaker or experts on the film’s topic that spur positive reflection, balanced discussion, debate, and action. Audience members are encouraged to move from conversation to action by volunteering with local non-profit organizations attending the PEACE village. In addition to the annual festival, MLJFF also present justREEL, a year-round film series.

Hidden Life Film Screening

The Rigs to Reefs program in the U.S. was established in 1984 to promote the growth of reefs on decommissioned offshore oil and gas platforms. While this program is generally popular with fishermen and the oil industry, there are still certain groups who are in opposition of this practice. Hidden Life is an exploration of the controversy behind the Rigs to Reefs program in California, highlighting the various perspectives on this complex issue.
