Iron & Earth: Edmonton Chapter Development
For many workers, the prospect of job transition is often accompanied by feelings of vulnerability and insecurity, and this dissuades labour movement. Iron & Earth's Edmonton Chapter will help offset this barrier - experienced by so many over the course of Alberta's economic downturn - by creating a critical network of connections between unlikely groups (oil industry, renewable energy organizations, and tradespeople) to elicit employment opportunities for Alberta's underemployed workforce. In developing and mobilizing the worker community, an Edmonton based chapter would provide a shared sense of belonging and a coherent image of what is possible, and thus help to both curtail the crises of confidence in transition and galvanize motivation to build a renewable economy in Alberta and Edmonton. Alberta can indeed continue to stand at the heart of Canada's energy industry as the country looks toward the vital horizon of renewable energy, but it must do so on the strength of those who will build it.
