Before joining Alberta Ecotrust, Jim was the inaugural Chair of the NAIT Alternative Energy program. During his 13 years in that role, he led a team that developed and implemented curricula for the rapidly evolving fields of renewable energy, high-performance buildings, bioenergy and project development. Throughout his career, Dr. Sandercock has shown a strong commitment to innovation, enthusiasm and a focus on delivering solutions that align with the needs of end-users.
Jim has contributed to several environmentally focused boards, including the City of Edmonton's Energy Transition and Climate Resiliency Committee, Solar Alberta and the Alberta Council for Environmental Education. He also took part in multiple Light Up the World projects, where he helped deliver solar, battery and telecom solutions to remote schools in Peru. His efforts have earned recognition from the Emerald Foundation, NAIT and the CaGBC.
Jim holds a PhD in Microbiology and Biotechnology and has focused his career on biofuels, electrification and high-performance buildings. Recently Jim and his family completed a deep energy retrofit of their home - Energiesprong #1 in North America!
