Chief Executive Officer & President
Rod Ruff is a collaborative leader dedicated to advancing environmental and climate action as the President and CEO of Alberta Ecotrust Foundation. With over a decade of experience shaping innovative solutions to Alberta’s most pressing environmental challenges, Rod has made a career out of building creative partnerships and programs for positive change.
Under Rod’s leadership, Alberta Ecotrust has distributed more than $25 million to community initiatives through grants, programs, and investments while pioneering projects that directly tackle climate change and promote sustainability. These include the creation of the Climate Innovation Fund, which invests in bold climate solutions in Calgary and Edmonton, and groundbreaking programs such as the Alberta Ecotrust Retrofit Accelerator and the Emissions-Neutral Building Information Exchange (ENBIX). As a founding member of the Low Carbon Cities Canada network, Rod has been instrumental in positioning Alberta as a national leader in urban climate innovation.
Rod’s passion for collaboration and strategic program design has also led him to spearhead initiatives like Mapping What Matters, the Environmental Gathering, and Project Blue Thumb - Canada’s first social innovation lab addressing water quality issues. His work reflects a commitment to creating a low-carbon, nature-abundant future for all Albertans.
When he’s not advancing Alberta Ecotrust’s mission, Rod can be found enjoying Alberta’s natural beauty. Whether he’s fly fishing in the Bow River, hunting in the prairies near his hometown of Medicine Hat, or immersed in a great book, Rod brings the same dedication and curiosity to his personal life as he does to his professional endeavours
