Ben is the director of the Pembina Institute’s electricity program. He works primarily on renewable energy and electricity policy design and analysis, focusing on Alberta and national jurisdictions. The emphasis of this work is on reducing emissions from the electricity sector, both through decreased reliance on fossil fuel sources of generation and policies to support the development of renewable energy. Prior to joining the Pembina Institute, Ben was a judicial law clerk to the judges of the Court of Appeal for Ontario and worked on international human rights and environmental law. He holds a B.Sc. in biochemistry from the University of Lethbridge and a JD from Harvard Law School.
