Passive House Alberta promotes the adoption of High-Performance Building and the Passive House Standard. Through this project, they will explore two affordable and accessible solutions for Deep Energy Retrofit strategies that any household can adopt today. They will investigate the use and the adoption of Load Share Devices and Air Admittance Valves. Load Share Devices are a code compliant, off-the-shelf electrical device that allow two separate appliances to share a single electrical panel breaker, eliminating the need to increase the electrical panel size when a home is decarbonized via electrification. When Air Admittance Valves are used to vent entire plumbing stacks of buildings, each plumbing stack capped by a valve can save up to 2 GJ of energy per year in Alberta.
