Alberta Coalition for Watershed Security

Shared strength. Informed Action. Watershed Security.

Watershed security in Alberta means honouring water as the source of life, culture and resilience. It is the foundation of thriving communities and economies, and it calls us to work together — across governments, sectors and cultures — to safeguard the rivers, lakes and wetlands that sustain us all.

Steered by Alberta Ecotrust Foundation, the Alberta Coalition for Watershed Security is working to restore and protect Alberta’s watersheds through coordinated advocacy, capacity-building and long-term systems change.

About the Coalition

Guided by a broad network of organizations and experts contributing knowledge, experience, and strategic insight, the Alberta Coalition for Watershed Security is a collaborative group working to protect Alberta's watershed health. Alberta Ecotrust Foundation steers this work, ensuring that the Coalition benefits from a strong foundation of expertise and collaboration as it grows.

The Coalition is currently focused on two urgent and connected goals: restoring the Watershed Resiliency and Restoration Program (WRRP) funding and laying the groundwork for a sustainable, long-term water fund. In doing so, it aims to build a legacy of healthy, resilient watersheds that can withstand the pressures of climate change and sustain Alberta’s communities, ecosystems and economies for generations to come.
