Alberta Ecotrust Grant Program
One program. One shared purpose. Working together towards an Alberta where people and nature thrive.
Grant funding
Alberta Ecotrust provides grant funding and project support to organizations working on environmental and climate solutions across Alberta.

About the Alberta Ecotrust Grant Program
Beginning Dec. 1, 2026, we are bringing our three existing grants, Climate Innovation, Environmental Impact and Springboard, together into one program: the Alberta Ecotrust Grant Program.
This change will help us take a more strategic approach to funding, maximize our impact across the province and, most importantly, make it easier for organizations to access support for their projects. Organizations will benefit from a simpler application process, with one intake per year and the opportunity to apply for larger project grants.
The Alberta Ecotrust Grant Program will provide about $2 million annually to projects across Alberta that advance:
Climate resilience and emissions reduction
Nature-based solutions and conservation
Circular economy
The eligibility criteria and the project focus areas remain unchanged.

Two streams of funding
Funding will be available through two streams:
Project Stream: funding of up to $150,000 per project. This stream combines the former Climate Innovation and Environmental Impact grants.
Capacity Building Stream: funding of up to $10,000 per organization. This stream continues the capacity-building support previously offered through the Springboard Grant.
As with our former grants, the application process for the Project Stream will have two stages: an expression of interest followed by a full application for selected projects. The Capacity Building Stream will remain a one-stage application process.
Key dates
The first intake for expressions of interest will run from Dec. 1, 2026 to Jan. 11, 2027. Successful applications will be announced in early summer 2027. The next intake will take place in fall 2027.
The program guide will be available in November 2026.

Our focus areas
- 1
Climate resilience and emissions reduction
Communities across Alberta need to design and implement effective emission reduction strategies and be prepared for the impacts of a changing climate. Initiatives in this category will investigate and adopt integrated, scalable approaches to adapting to a changing climate and reducing community GHG emissions.
- 2
Nature-based solutions and conservation
Meeting the pressing need for effective carbon sequestration, biodiversity protection and sustainable ecosystem services calls for initiatives that employ nature-based solutions and contribute to long-term environmental resilience.
- 3
Advancing a circular economy
Underpinned by a transition to renewable energy and materials, the circular economy is a resilient system that benefits business, people and the environment. Initiatives in this category will further understanding and implementation of the three design-driven principles at the core of the circular economy: eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials (at their highest value), and regenerate nature.
