About

Green Economy Calgary is a non-profit hub that supports local businesses to adapt and thrive in the low-carbon transition. Developed as a collaboration between Alberta Ecotrust and Green Economy Canada, the hub provides a cost-effective, hands-on, and practical approach to help members take action on climate change and become stronger and more resilient for the future.

Whether you are a business which is just getting started, or one which wants to accelerate your sustainability journey, Green Economy Calgary is the place for you.

A successful national model

Based on a successful national model from Green Economy Canada, Green Economy Calgary supports small and medium businesses in the Calgary area to shrink their carbon footprint. It provides a guided step by step process to help its members to measure their emissions, create and implement reduction plans, set reduction targets, and track progress towards their goals. Members have access to resources, one-on-one support, on-going educational events, and a peer network to advance their sustainability goals while being publicly recognized by the Hub for steps they are taking to become greener.

In the backdrop of a tough economic climate and changing business landscape, Green Economy Calgary helps local businesses gain a competitive edge and prepare for the future. By taking steps to reduce their environmental impacts, members will reduce operating costs, mitigate business risks, and improve their ability to attract and retain consumers and top talent.

Alberta Ecotrust is a partner in this initiative, as well as a member of the inaugural cohort of organizations taking proactive steps to reduce their impact on climate change and drive sustainable economic growth. This initiative fills a critical gap and provides accessible climate action support to small/medium organizations, allowing them to collectively demonstrate commitment to a more resilient Alberta.

Green Economy Calgary is part of a network of Green Economy Hubs across the country led by Green Economy Canada. Together this network has engaged more than 600 businesses to collectively reduce more than 225,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions -- the equivalent of removing 69,000 cars off the road for one year.

Green Economy Calgary is made possible thanks to a collaboration between Alberta Ecotrust Foundation and Green Economy Canada, and is supported by the City of Calgary, Calgary Foundation, Natural Resources Canada, and TD Bank Group.
