Alberta Ecotrust Foundation’s Climate Innovation Fund has committed $500,000 to Active Impact Investments’ Fund III, a Vancouver-based early-stage venture capital fund dedicated to advancing climate technology solutions across North America.

Active Impact Investments specializes in supporting high-potential climate tech startups in early stages, helping them scale up operations and bring their innovations to market. The fund focuses on five key verticals within the climate tech sector deemed essential to the net-zero transition: Low-emission transportation, clean and renewable energy, infrastructure and carbon reduction technologies, the circular economy and sustainable food and water systems.

With a proven track record of financial returns and impact-driven results, Active Impact’s Fund III has set an ambitious goal of reducing cumulative greenhouse gas emissions by one million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent. “Investing in climate solutions is a smart and future-focused strategy. As the world moves toward a low-carbon economy, funding clean technology, sustainable infrastructure and climate adaptation doesn’t just cut emissions,” said Sid Roy, Alberta Ecotrust’s Impact Investments Director. “It also creates jobs, boosts competitiveness, and makes communities more resilient. These investments help prepare our cities and economy for climate risks while opening the door to new ideas and market opportunities.”

By investing in Active Impact’s Fund III, Alberta Ecotrust’s Climate Innovation Fund is accelerating emissions reduction while creating opportunities for follow-on funding for our portfolio companies and co-investments that align with our strategic priorities. This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to mobilizing capital toward innovative climate solutions and supporting the growth of a clean technology ecosystem that can deliver measurable environmental and economic benefits.
