Alberta Ecotrust Foundation’s Climate Innovation Fund has committed $250,000 to Spring Impact Capital’s Fund I, an early-stage venture capital fund that backs startups focused on planetary and human health.
Based in Vancouver, Spring Impact Capital supports high-potential startups by providing capital, expertise and talent to help scale operations and bring innovations to market. The fund targets climate technology sectors, including the circular economy, renewable energy and smart grids, the blue economy, industrial decarbonization, carbon tracking and analytics, sustainable consumer products and bioplastics, and sustainable food and agriculture systems.
Spring, the parent of Spring Impact Capital, has been a leader in Canada’s impact investing sector for more than a decade. It has supported 3,000 impact-driven entrepreneurs, trained more than 900 angel investors and catalyzed $50 million in investments.
“Spring Impact Capital brings deep experience in scaling impact-driven startups and shares our commitment to equity, climate action and economic resilience,” said Sid Roy, Alberta Ecotrust’s director of impact investments. “Through this investment and our partnership with Spring, we’re supporting transformative technologies and helping build a more inclusive, future-ready climate-tech ecosystem in Alberta and beyond.”
Olivia Hornby, Spring Impact Capital’s managing partner, said the partnership strengthens support for entrepreneurs tackling climate challenges.
“By providing the right funding and strategic support, we can accelerate innovations that deliver measurable environmental benefits while generating sustainable economic returns,” she said. “We’re proud to work alongside a partner who shares our commitment to building a resilient economy and protecting the health of our planet for generations to come.”
Investing in Spring Impact Capital’s Fund I will help accelerate decarbonization, strengthen Alberta’s climate-tech ecosystem and advance diversity and inclusion in the sector.
