Just over a year ago, Alberta Ecotrust Foundation and Green Economy Canada launched Green Economy Calgary (GEYYC) to help local businesses navigate and benefit from the low-carbon transition.

Resilience has become essential for long-term success in an increasingly complex business environment. As environmental and economic pressures mount, Calgary businesses are stepping up, and GEYYC is helping lead the way with accessible, cost-effective, and collaborative sustainability solutions.

By joining the hub, local businesses gain tools to manage risks, reduce costs and identify growth opportunities, all while maintaining their competitiveness in a rapidly changing economy.

Ambitious goals for a low-carbon future

GEYYC is focused on supporting the business community through a series of key objectives:

  • Future-proofing Calgary’s economy

Helping businesses reduce emissions supports continuity, lowers operational costs and helps meet rising expectations from investors, customers and supply chains.

  • Tapping into new markets

By creating demand for low-carbon products and services, the initiative opens doors to new customers, investment and innovation.

  • Building a skilled workforce

The program invests in local talent to ensure Calgary’s workforce is ready for the jobs of tomorrow and that businesses can attract and retain the right people.

  • Strengthening community connections

GEYYC fosters collaboration by connecting businesses of all sizes to share knowledge, ideas and sustainability solutions.

  • Connecting to a national network

Through Green Economy Canada, local members gain access to peers and resources across the country, helping them accelerate progress and stay ahead of national trends.

  • Driving cross-sector collaboration

The initiative recognizes that sectors such as construction, transportation and finance must work together to create lasting change.

Why Alberta Ecotrust joined

At Alberta Ecotrust, we are proud to help build and promote GEYYC, but we’re not just cheering from the sidelines—we’ve joined as members too. We know that building a resilient organization means being proactive, adaptable and aligned with where the economy is heading. For us, participating in GEYYC isn’t just about reducing our footprint—it’s about strengthening our operations, saving money and showing what’s possible.

The hub has helped Alberta Ecotrust:

  • Take the first steps using structured tools and support

  • Begin tracking emissions and energy use in a meaningful way

  • Set ambitious but achievable goals

  • Identify operational savings and efficiency gains

  • Build sustainability into everyday operations
