Please join us in welcoming Mike Mellross to the Alberta Ecotrust team as Program Director of the new Climate Innovation Fund in Calgary and Edmonton. Alberta Ecotrust is a member of the Low Carbon Cities Canada (LC3) network and Mike will lead exciting new collaborations with both the City of Calgary and the City of Edmonton.

Prior to joining Alberta Ecotrust, Mike supervised the Energy Transition and Utility Supply unit at the City of Edmonton. His team was responsible for the implementation of Edmonton’s Community Energy Transition Strategy, a long-term plan designed to advance Edmonton on a low carbon path. Mike also managed the City’s utilities file which included the initiation of a power purchase agreement for the procurement of 100% green electricity for city operations.

Mike has over 20 years of experience across private and public organizations, working in the realm of environmental policy, energy management, and sustainability. Mike is a published author with articles in popular science journals on the application of market transformation theory for the achievement of climate change goals. He has degrees in Environmental Science, Water Pollution Studies, and Natural Sciences and is a registered Professional Agrologist with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists.

Mike was recently a recipient of FCM’s Best for Canada Innovator award and a 2019 winner of the Charles Labatiuk award for environmental excellence.

“I am honored to be joining Alberta Ecotrust’s team to establish the Climate Innovation Fund in Calgary and Edmonton. Through direct programming, grants and targeted investment the Climate Innovation Fund will help to scale-up innovation and deploy urban climate change solutions. I am excited that the measures we will support will not only reduce Alberta’s contribution to global climate change but also contribute to Alberta’s renewed prosperity. I look forward to collaborating with both the City of Calgary and Edmonton and all sectors to achieve deep and meaningful emissions reductions,” Mike says.

“Mike’s experience and expertise in municipal climate policy, plus his really keen interest in the potential impacts the Climate Innovation Fund can have, adds new depth to our team. We’ve worked with Mike for several years through our partnership with the City of Edmonton so we know he’s a good fit,” adds Pat Letizia, CEO.

We look forward to introducing you to Mike!
