Direct Investing - Pooled
Through the Alberta Ecotrust Climate Innovation Fund, we identify, invest in and help scale up solutions by supporting projects, organizations, and enterprises that align with Calgary and Edmonton's climate action plans.
We invest in third-party funds that bundle multiple climate assets offering diversification and scalable impact such as venture capital, private equity, private debt and green bonds.
What we look for
We want to work with established managers producing top-quartile returns, experienced leadership and transparent impact reporting. Funds must deploy at least 50 percent of capital in Canada, deliver material GHG reductions, align with our strategic priorities, maintain rigorous ESG oversight and offer clear exit pathways.

Status: Active
Focus: Operates in a unique and underserved segment of renewable energy finance, specializing in royalty-based funding solutions tailored for renewable energy projects.
Impact: RE Royalties helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and address climate transition risk by financing projects in renewable energy, energy efficiency and management, and clean transportation.
Investment amount: $500,000

Focus: Venture capital for seed-stage companies in North America in the areas of clean energy and transportation, infrastructure and carbon solutions, sustainable food and water, and the circular and sharing economy.
Impact: At the portfolio level, the fund will report impacts using metrics reflecting GHG emissions reductions, tonnes of waste diverted, litres of water treated or saved and MWh of energy represented.

Focus: Venture capital for pre-seed and seed stage companies in Canada in the areas of human and planetary health with an emphasis on diversity and/or underserved communities.
Impact: At the portfolio level, the fund will report impacts on health (number of patients receiving treatment), environment (mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, reduction of waste) and diversity at the management level.

About the Climate Innovation Fund
Our investments are made possible with funding from Alberta Ecotrust's Climate Innovation Fund. The Climate Innovation Fund targets the major urban greenhouse gas emissions sources in Calgary and Edmonton.
