Wizard Lake Watershed and Lake Stewardship Association (WLWLSA) is launching a restoration initiative to reduce nutrient-laden runoff entering Wizard Lake, a vital recreational and ecological freshwater lake in Alberta. Using nature-based bioengineering techniques, including live willow staking and flow-slowing structures, WLWLSA will enhance a County of Wetaskiwin No. 10 ditch that drains approximately 11.5 quarters of surrounding agricultural land along RR271 and TWP 480. These measures will slow flows, stabilize banks and improve nutrient uptake, strengthening watershed health while supporting long-term community stewardship and climate-resilient drainage management. This project will implement a nature-based retrofit of approximately 1 hectare of municipal drainage corridor.
