These are uncertain times.

The challenges we face can seem overwhelming. We’ve all seen the effects of a changing climate, like floods, forest fires, and rising temperatures. Issues like these demand our attention and support.

We see how important environmental work is to improving quality of life for communities across the board.

That’s why, we believe investing in the environment is an investment in the health of a community.

Plus, for 30 years, Alberta Ecotrust Foundation has been facilitating partnerships and convening projects to protect our ecosystems.

We are a trusted charity that is well known for responsible financial management, using donations to fund tangible and transformational solutions to Alberta’s environmental and social challenges.

But, the challenges we face are less daunting when we work together.

At Alberta Ecotrust, we bring together stakeholders from, industry, government, philanthropy, and the environmental nonprofit community to catalyze and support action to protect and preserve the environment.

We help environmental nonprofits navigate these evolving challenges in the grants we offer, the partnerships we convene, the advocacy we do on their behalf and the capacity building support we provide.

Is your organization ready to commit to protecting our environment?

Thank you to our community of support

How are partnerships with Alberta Ecotrust different?

Alberta Ecotrust’s partnership model brings together groups who do not normally have the chance to collaborate.

Alberta is home to a vibrant and growing network of stakeholders working towards solutions addressing environmental challenges like conservation, water quality, biodiversity, nature-based solutions and emissions reduction.

These partnerships bring a wide range of experience and expertise to the table — some are seasoned naturalists, sustainability experts, and environmental advocates, others are industry insiders, philanthropic changemakers and government leaders.

We bring unique partners together because each one brings a diverse wealth of knowledge on how to best invest in supporting Alberta’s environmental community and protecting our environment.

We view partnership as a robust and reciprocal relationship. We will work closely with you to make that relationship meaningful.

When you partner with Alberta Ecotrust, you can:

  • Actualize your organization's core values by committing to protecting our environment and building an effective voluntary sector.

  • Invest in environmental projects, so that more tangible and transformational solutions to Alberta’s environmental and social challenges are made possible.

  • Build trust and relationships between sectors, so that there is a better collaboration on solutions to the challenges and environmental issues facing us all.

How our partnerships work

Alberta Ecotrust’s partners work together to strategically fund projects that have very real environmental benefits – on water, on wilderness and wildlife, on air and climate – in Alberta and beyond. This means contributions have an amplified impact as they are collectively invested in solutions.

Collectively, we have an excellent understanding of the environmental issues that are most important to Albertans, and which groups around the province are working towards positive solutions. This allows us to wisely invest in the most impactful environmental solutions.

As a Partner, we will work with you to understand your charitable giving, business and staff engagement goals and look for alignment within Alberta Ecotrust’s goals, programs and activities.

We will then design a partner relationship that best suits our shared goals with opportunities for direct engagement with programs and projects, network connections and ongoing impact reporting.

    Defend Alberta Parks

In February 2020, the Government of Alberta announced their intention to remove 175 parks from the Alberta parks system. CPAWS Southern Alberta used funding from Alberta Ecotrust to help with their Defend Alberta Parks campaign. This decision has since been reversed, but only because of pushback from tens of thousands of Albertans that CPAWS created.

Blackfoot Phenology for Farmers Cultivating Ecological Literacy
