As Calgary considers and debates blanket rezoning to permit middle housing across the city, RNDSQR Middle (MDDL) and the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) will go a step further and consider: what are the benefits of middle housing related to climate resilience? How can we equip the industry with the knowledge to accelerate and scale up middle housing production in Calgary?

This project will quantify the opportunity for middle housing, assess its climate impacts compared with single-family suburban development, analyze policy, regulatory and financial levers to support middle housing, and share findings with industry and stakeholders.
