In partnership with the Northern Institute of Applied Technology (NAIT), Ren Engineering Inc. and MACK Construction, Retrofit Canada will manage the implementation of a cold climate heat pump research station on the NAIT campus. Land-permitting, the project will offer a side-by-side performance comparison between a cold climate air source heat pump, a traditional vertically drilled ground source heat pump field and a first in Alberta, the pilot of below-building ground source retrofit wells using utility-style directionally drilling. The project will offer proof of concept for low-impact geothermal retrofits under existing buildings and create a long-term research and testing facility for NAIT Alternative Energy Program students.
