Bike Edmonton’s Old Bike, New Life project supports Edmontonians’ growing interest in cycling for transportation and recreation by promoting a sustainable circular economy for bicycles and parts. Bikes that would otherwise end up in landfills or deteriorate in storage are repaired and rehomed, or dismantled for parts to restore other bicycles. Each bike sold includes a free annual Bike Edmonton membership, encouraging new owners to return for used parts and workshop access, and reinforcing a culture of reuse and community maintenance.

Funding from the Environmental Impact Grant will allow Bike Edmonton to expand the program by increasing the collection of used bicycles, adding storage and repair capacity, and extending shop hours to accommodate additional sales. Bikes sold through the program typically cost half or less than a similar new model, offering residents an affordable way to start cycling.

The expansion of Old Bike, New Life will divert more bicycles from landfills and increase access to affordable bikes for commuting and recreation, creating environmental and community benefits as more people ride reliable used bicycles.
