The Renfrew Community Association is supporting a scalable green bond platform backed by a 1.4 MW solar carport. The Renfrew Solar Carport is located in the parking lot of Telus Spark and owned by the City of Calgary. The Community Association will lease the solar asset, and sell the generated energy to Telus Spark. Over the next 2 decades, the revenue from energy sales and bonds from the Renfrew Solar Carport will be issued to Calgary communities to kickstart their community solar projects. Along with these funds, Renfrew Solar green bonds will be sold to further fund other community projects that will in turn feed into the seed money for other projects. With the help of the City this will create a system of yearly solar projects and allow residents to engage with their community and diversify their portfolio by investing in local infrastructure.
